  1. Blog Question 7
Tom Joad definitely a major character is first said to be a murderer. The novel starts with telling us that he killed someone and has been in prison for four years. Right when he gets out he feels no reason to keep thinking in the past and only to move forward. He is already the favorite of the Joads but he is very determined and only wants to help and he tries more and more throughout the novel. He does everything he can to help others and from the start to end he goes from trying to help to gaining the respect of many other people by later making unions.
Jim Casy a minor character or well less of a major. We are told he was a former preacher giving us the idea he has strong morals. But he has quit because he thinks life is holy enough. He of course coming from a religious background has the most moral input. He comes from being a calm and composed former preacher but then changes into an organizer of the migrant workers helping Mr. Tom Joad. Also stepping up in a more physical way to help.

  2. Blog Question #7:
The development of the major character, Tom Joad, grew throughout the novel. He started off as being out on parole from the crime he committed. He developes by eventually learning what he has to do in order to survive. The minor character, Jim the former preacher, developed throughout the novel by learning how the government operates.

    Blog Question #8:
The major difference between the novel and the film is the context used in both. The novel explained the situations more. In the film, some characters were not mentioned, such as the Wilsons. The novel revealed that Rose of sharon's, Tom's sister, baby died before she actually gave birth to it.

  3. Blog Question #7:
Connies is Rose of Sharon's husband. The two are married and Rose of Sharon is pregnant with their first child. Although Connie has a wife and a child on the way, the affects of the Depression have their tole on him. THroughout the book he get more selfish, and ignores his wife. Eventually he gets so selfish and hopeless that he runrs out on the Joad family and his wife; which leaves her devastated.

Tom Joad is a man that recently got out of prison and is on parole. When he gets home, he learns that his family is going to Califnornia, and he has no choice but to go with them even though it breaks his parole. Overall in the story his character does not change much and he describes a major theme of the story which is justice. Throughout the book he tries to promote justice by stoping injustice. For example when a cop shoots a woman he stops him before he hurts anybody else, and his last scene in the story. His lines refer to promoting justice, and stopign injustice.

    Blog Question #8
One of the major differences on the story and the movie is the seriousness of Tom Joads parole; or at least how much it is mentioned in the book in comparison to the film. In the book it is an ongoing problem, while in the movie. It is really only i big problem in the end. In the book Ma Joad says she is worried for Tom because he is crossing the border, which is breaking his parole. She is a constant reminder of what might happen to Tom, and in a way forshadows what is going to happen to Tom. In the film, the problem manifests itself at the end of the story when Tom has to run away in order to escape prison.

Tom Joad is the major character that developed throughout the novel. He is introduced as the man who killed another man out of self defense. As he learns what has happened to his family readers discover that he has a bit of an angry side. When Tom goes on the road with his family, people see how he takes part with his father and uncle in running the family and making sure everyone is taken care of. Toms character stays mostly the same, but you can see how he steps up to protect the ones he loves.
Jim Casy is a minor character. He begins as a man who has lost faith in himself when it comes to his connection with god. He is also a mand who is oblivious to the law and world that surrounds him. As time goes by he learns about people, the government, and how to survive.

Major differences between the novel and the movie is the development of characters. In the novel you learn in depth about the seriousness of certain things that each character goes through. Also Toms parole is not mentioned to the degree it needed to be in the movie. Also it seems to skip and shorten scenes from the book the seemed relevant enough to be mentioned. Overall the movie is an okay representation of the novel, but without reading the book you could not truly understand the pain the Joads suffered.

  5. Blog Question 8
The movie was being more Hollywood and followed the plot but somewhat loosely. Also all the little details the movie never really explained the reason why the Joads had to leave their farm. Also in the movie they never explained the economic crisis. They never brought it up and that was a very important thing to show. Well and another rather obvious difference is that Steinbeck really focused describing physical ground and places such as describing tattered soil, great land, or sun. In the movie this was fairly just background, which it is but a very subtle difference.
